QIGONG
Qigong is a technique designed to cultivate Qi, the internal energy at the heart of all Chinese culture (philosophy, medicine, martial arts). Applied in different ways, Qigong can achieve many different results:
- Meditation Qigong develops spiritual awareness.
- Medical Qigong promotes general good health or focuses on specific ailments.
- Martial Qigong strengthens the body and increases internal power.
These systems overlap and will all bring varying degrees of all the different benefits.
Movement and the use of the mind are common essentials in the practice of all the forms of Qigong. Even when the body is externally still, Qi movement is always present. Breathing and intent (relaxed concentration) will make you more aware of Qi movement within the body. Loose muscles and joints, exact body alignment will improve fluidity of Qi internal circulation.
Taiji is an embodiment of Qigong, integrating its principals of internal development, circulation and expression of Qi, together with the use of the mind to coordinate movement and strength of the relaxed body.
Unlike other physical exercises, Taiji and Qigong do not rely on force or speed, making them suitable for people of all ages, strength and gender.
In the 'Alex Dong International Taijiquan Association' we practice different forms of Qigong for many different purposes. (See School Syllabus)
